Randomness & We've Been Skunked!!

Here is what has been going on in our world.

Our oldest left for the Army this morning. My mind has been racing all day long. I wonder what he is doing now? Did he forget anything? Is he getting enough to eat? Is his bed comfortable? Is he making new friends and fitting in? Please keep him in prayer!!

I made a stop at the expensive thrift store. I just cannot figure that place out. I picked up this apothecary jar in which it was WAY under priced by this thrift store standards. Not that I am complaining!

I have had my eye on a glass candy dish at this same thrift store for weeks now. It is priced at $24.98!! The candy dish cannot be any bigger than the bottom fourth of the apothecary jar yet is priced $22 higher!! Like I said I just don't get how they come up with their pricing! If the candy dish ever comes down to $2.98 I just might buy it!

I also found this cute little jar for 98 cents. I love the red clasp.
I am in no way ready for winter but couldn't pass these cute salt and pepper shakers up. I have had visions of fall and Christmas decorating in my head for weeks now!!
Last but certainly not least...

I love this dog but she has been a thorn in my side the past several days.
We tend to stay up really late on the weekends. Ok, I stay up late during the week too but even a little later on the weekends. Before I go to bed I always let the dog go out to do her thing one last time. On Friday evening I let her out at 1:30AM and when she came back in she had been sprayed by a skunk!!

I have never smelled something so rotten in my life!! I didn't know she had been sprayed so I let her back in the house although she never left the kitchen. The kids were already in bed and within minutes they were all up with their shirts over their noses asking what smelled so bad. Yes, the smell consumed the house that fast!! And the smell is not like the skunk smell when you pass one on the street that has been hit by a car. This is much, much worse. Being that it was 1:30AM there wasn't much we could do until the next morning. I had her sleep in the kitchen which was a huge mistake! I should have had her stay outside but she is an indoor dog. I am sure my neighbors would have called the police on us because of all the commotion she would have made if I left her out there.

So the following day we had to give her a bath to get the skunk smell off of her. We looked on the Internet and found that the best remedy.  Here is the recipe just in case you may need it one day:

1 quart 3% Hydrogen Peroxide
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1 teaspoon liquid soap
(Dawn dish washing detergent is often recommended, but any dish soap will work)

Thankfully it only took one bath (outside!) of the solution and she no longer smelled like skunk. Then I had to tackle the lingering skunk smell in our house.  I cleaned, scrubbed, and boiled everything with vinegar. We bought Glade air fresheners for every room. It even cooled off enough where we opened the windows for a while. We burn candles anytime we are home. It is now 4 days later and there is still a faint skunk smell in our house. The smell has turned to more of the rotten smell that you smell when you pass a skunk that has been hit on the road. Unbelievably awful!! I think we get used to it after we have been here for a while and the candles and air fresheners do a good job of masking the smell. I also Febreeze often. It is getting a little better every day but I think it is going to take a good week or so before it is completely gone. My word of advice is if you even think your dog has been sprayed by a skunk do NOT let it into the house!!!

Thank you for visiting and have a great day!
XOXO!
